Suddenlink routing issues perhaps?

I live in northern california, i run a gaming server hosted in san jose ca. There are a couple issues. When i connect to the server, its says i am connecting from Ottowa Canada. The second issue is that my ping which is usually 15-25 is getting up to the high 100s (160-190) in the evenings. When i run a tracert there is a hop that is getting my that high ping, and when i look up where that ip is, it is in Georgia. Not sure why i am being routed through Georgia to go from northen california to central california. - Any help is Greatly appreciated. - Thank you - M

What to do when Suddenlink DNS stops working?

I suddenly couldn't connect to anything this morning. Not on my PC, Macbook, smartphons or Apple TV. After resetting the modem and router, it was still not connecting. I looked online using my smartphone(cellular data), I found something that said to change to Google DNS 8.8.8.8. That worked.... I changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 on all of my devices and they have been working perfectly for the last several hours. If I switch back to automatic DNS(which I assume uses Suddenlink DNS), then I can't connect to anything anymore. Switching back to Google DNs and it goes back to normal. Can anyone tell me what the problem may be? I don't want to use Google DNS... or should I? Thanks!

I had this service before but senior tech techs came to house, well they ignored what their senior tech told me so filed a complaint, guess updating service rural area and seem not to have what they advertised, thus complaint filed, years went by from 2014 so figured now they had 100 MB service unlimited vs. dumb cap of 250 and slow service offered in 2014, tried denied said due to complaint than their general manager came by and set on my porch said we have 100 MB should get 89 MB, ok mom had it in her name sent notice of service, ordered a modem and r6250 router, general mg came to house said the past complaint cause the Muskogee office to need and respond to much paper work not sure if we can help you acted upset over consumer complaint for not giving service advertised which done if issue company gives me run around since 1972, so I was surprised gm would set on my porch specifically say due to complaint not sure if we can give you any future service. Said if the advertised service of 100 MB and can give me descent service vs 18 mb paying 33 for see no issue, he said he check call me back never did than got a letter saying they cannot provide advertised services even though neighbors and their web site shows all service are up now and offered in Henryetta. Guess should of not filed complaint but never heard of a consumer complaint causing this type of issue till now, disabled senior son in navy so use internet for that and other personal issues, sort of stinks a least in my opinion a company can do this over a complaint. Plus sent in info to complaint service, than keep sending this to me over and over no idea what this is hoped since new ownership and better services advertised just to get what they offered when I left said sorry about it but try later maybe when service was up as promised at time 2014 no mention of this every being a problem till gm showed up on my porch.

[Connectivity] Suddenlink DNS Servers in Conroe

I'd like to know what the designated DNS servers are for the Conroe area; I've always used 208.180.42.100 & 208.180.42.68, but I see now that they're supposedly 208.180.42.100 & 66.76.175.100. So which servers are correct for this area, or does it really matter ? One other really strange thing: if I connect my linux PC directly to the modem, I get an IP address in the 75,X,X,X range, but when connected through a hardware firewall, I'm getting an IP address of 47.220.20.1, so what gives on this ? Is this some very simple thing that I'm completely missing ? Speedtests on both IP's are almost identical, and both are Suddenlink addresses.

I was paying my bill online and noticed that Suddenlink was telling me to use Panda free anti-virus. Does Suddenlink actually recommend it? Or is this just a way for them to make an extra buck by referring me to Panda? Just wondering...

[Rant] "All circuits are busy now"

"All circuits are busy now" ... and not only in some switch but also in some SL's customer support heads. Two nights ago (technically, yesterday morning), shortly after midnight, at about 00:15, I discovered that I cannot dial any 800 (and 8xx) number. I was getting "All circuits are busy now" message. At the same time, calling a local number was not a problem. I had not tried any long-distance numbers, - I regret it now, as it could have given more information ... This is not the first it is happening. And previously, I also experienced it at night. (I don't know if it is indeed a trend related to the time. One possibility is that I am not calling as much in the middle of the day, so, I don't know.) So, that night I called SL. The first thing the guy did was: "I am going to reset your phone", and "bam!", without waiting for anything or letting me to interject, he rebooted my modem. Obviously that had no effect except for breaking the active internet connections I had established. And the guy was defending himself that he mentioned that he would "reset the phone". (As an aside: if anybody reporting to me at work would have done such a rush thing without thinking, I would have probably slapped that person's hands (most likely figuratively...). Luckily, even the most junior people who are paid the minimum wage were smarter than that.) The guy couldn't do much after this and submitted a ticket to the voice-ops (who are working only during the day time). Yesterday, I got a call from a voice-op. The quality of the call was sub-par, and the tech's communication manners were not the best. She made me checking that today I can dial out all numbers, and even though I said that the issue is not resolved, hung up, and marked the ticket closed. Right after that, I called SL again, and the "tech support" guy opened a new ticket (after first trying to hypothesize how the problems I've observed could be due to my modem or my signal, and offering a truck roll to check my modem). This morning, I got a call on my home phone number (and I wasn't home), while I requested to be contacte d on my cell number, as they did yesterday. And no, despite the voice messages saying "we'll call you later", they did not call again today. Argh!... Why everything has to be so an... awkward and inconvenient for customers?!

The first thing I will do is post the url to all my results on speedtest.net. It's easier to do that, than post a bunch of different links and picks. If I see 200+ I will post those as images, otherwise just go look at the url below. http://www.speedtest.net/results.php?sh=f854b438b299aabbbaf1d1ddb733fbb1&ria=0 I am hitting close to 180-185 peek during most of these tests as observed via netmeter. Service at my driveway, CAN'T get a response to extend to home!!

My house is set back 300 feet from the pedestal at my driveway. We live in a rural area outside of Willis, Tx. I've visited the office (because you can't call them) in Conroe, six times and been told that they are waiting a response from construction. The girl in the office (i have her name if somebody wants it) was saying that construction needing to make sure it will "pay out" over time. I've offered to dig the trench to lower the cost. If i can afford it, I will pay for the extension of service. But i cannot get a response. I'm not an IT guy, I've never really dealt with this before... But i can dig a trench! I can run a cable if needed. What is my next step? Any ideas? Is there somebody else I can contact? I've been in once a week for 5 weeks now, and "customer service" has been no help saying it is all through the "local office." We really don't want to have to get satellite service, but I don't know if that will be sufficient. Help?

[Connectivity] Channel bonding and speed issues in Central Ark

Have been w/ Suddenlink for close to 8 years. Had the 50/15 service, and hit my DL speeds consistently. A couple of months ago, I upgraded to 75/15, and just a couple of weeks ago to 100/15 due to data caps. My DL speed has remained the same (~45), my UL speeds before/after have never exceeded 7. Using a Cisco DPC3010 for the last 3 years (which was a previously approved device), and it's showing 4 of 8 DL channels, and 4 of 4 UL channels. I am not seeing any channel bonding, as the lights on the router are constantly green. I have seen on occasion the DL will turn amber right after reboot, but after a few minutes it turns green again. The modem was purchased used, and I noticed it's using a Cox firmware (not sure if that's a problem). Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Cutting SL tv out

So, been working on getting the antenna up for the past couple weeks. Finally got it finished and hooked in today. Stand alone 200/20 will cost me 93.50 and tax. 2 weeks ago when I started they quoted 85 and tax. New customers are still offered 60 for the same service. Loving the loyalty treatment lol. I must say though that OTA HD actually looks and sounds better than SL HD, watching the Olympics for a quick example. Pleasantly surprised by the quality. Of note, chat agents can no longer remove lines of service, have to call in. And there's a new chat interface too. -- Join Suddenlink Line Monitor! 200/20 Suddenlink ~ 5/1 CMA ~ 15/2 TWC

what's the cheapest unlimited data plan for Greenville, NC?

I'm confused this and calling Suddenlink customer only got me more confused. :) My current data plan is the 200mbps unlimited data plan for $59 per month. Suddenlink also has a $39 50mbps plan with 250gb data cap. However, the Suddenlink ad says "for $5 more per month, you can get unlimited data...." Does that mean I can also downgrade and pay just $44 per month for unlimited data at a slower speed? Thanks!

Modem rental required for gigabit service?

Just got off the phone with an agent and they said that they require modem rental for gigabit service. Is this really a requirement or is this akin to them "requiring" static IPs for business internet? Anyone have any luck with just using their own capable modem?

[Rant] I'll Take the Outages

$

I've had superbly horrific internet from good ol' Suddenlink for the last few months, after I was effectively railroaded by a tech into """upgrading""" from our old modem to a new one. The installation went "wonderfully", and left us without a phone for several days before we could get a tech to come out and install the phone properly. The minute they did, they net immediately became unusable due to frequent, daily, lengthy outages -- the result of splitting an already weak signal. Add to that, when the internet goes out? So too does the phone, so effectively we were back to having no phone at all. Full circle! I put up with this for several months because calling Suddenlink's internet dept is akin to voluntarily choosing to light oneself on fire, but eventually after a good seven hour outage, I gave in and arranged a tech to come by the following day. He put in an amplifier. I don't know how those work, I will be the first to admit that -- but given the fresh new face of hell I've been subjected to since this little component of sunshine was put in my home, I'm going to hazard a guess that it increases latency to offset the poor signal and ensure that, EVENTUALLY, the request goes through. Which seems like a livable tradeoff, less speed for more reliability... If it worked that way. Alas, my net is now worse than 90's dial-up -- people joke about that a lot, but I am completely serious that my connection right now is giving me war flashbacks to AOL 6.0 on the Windows 95. I spent two hours today trying to upload a 700kb JPG file and literally timed out multiple times before moving onto the next site. Skype messages lag before going through. I am accustomed to seeing elements of web pages broken, and I haven't bee able to use google images for anything because it literally cannot load. More technically, I'm dealing with upwards of 50% packet loss, and ping times between 130ms to 600ms, which is a whole 'nother level of horrifying. Every other ping times out, and it makes a lovely pattern in cmd. But listen to me, making a fuss of upstream stuff. Let me tell you about my DOWNSTREAM, which is currently so utterly useless that MBAM can't update virus definitions because it times out. The best way to get a page to load is to attempt to load it, see if it's "caught", and then cancel and repeat until it "catches" because once the request goes through it loads just fine. Otherwise? You wait forever on the page never to come. I can't update anything from Steam at all -- literally incapable of it, I can't even back up saves right now. It's a beautiful net outage wonderland. I just want to be able to do basic tasks, AT LEAST to show my friends the Hummingbird Moth I met today! I've given up playing games online with friends, that's a fallacy if I've ever heard one living in the sticks, and get your head out of any concept of let's playing something with them or watching them draw. I have a sneaking suspicion that Suddenlink is actually prioritizing certain forms streaming traffic, because despite the fact that I can't upload a teeny image file without timeouts, I can load youtube and netflix videos -- but other services that are less popular stutter every frame. It's a very odd coincidence, to put it mildly. So given that my net is now working far worse than it did when I was dealing with simple outages, I am going to call Suddenlink again tomorrow: and I am going to tell them that I would rather have the outages, thank you very much. Altice buying them out has cursed much of my state to an abysmal life of being stuck with them, or getting the wonderful choice between two evils: Suddenlink, and Frontier, and I for one... would like to feel something towards this, but if I may be real for a moment, I am so utterly resigned to my fate that I can no longer even muster a sigh about the predicament here in the sticks. I have utterly given up hope that the situation will improve, but I also recognize that I am at least lucky enough to get SOME service. At the least, being able to vent about my situation is worth some small comfort. Thank you for permitting me to do so.

CableCard issue

I went by the local office the other day to pick up a CableCard for my HDHomerun prime...They gave me an instruction sheet on how to call and get it activated..The first call, after 15 min on hold, the lady took half my information(which she seemed to already have access to) and said she didn't need CableCard ID or Host ID..said I was good to go..After I did a channel scan I notice that I get like 4 or 5 HD channels and those are ones that are OTA..So,I call again last night at 10:30pm..This time I'm on hold for 23 min before I get thru to someone :( This fella is more helpful and takes all the info I need to give him..He says he can't get it to "pair"? that I need to come back and try a new card or call the manufacture of my box...After reading others problems on here dealing with same problem,I'm beginning to think they may not be good at setting these up..Who can I get ahold of to save a trip back to local store or setting on hold again with same results? Thanks
