intermittent internet problems super slow wifi speeds , louisian

I was part of the residents in Louisiana and neighboring states that were displaced because of the March flooding. According to swepco my power was never shut off and the water flooded my backyard and other areas but thankfully because the foundation is a little higher didnt get into my home like my neighbors. I have been having horrible intermitten service since then , I called suddenlink they assured me there wasnt an outage until i insisted they look and they said it was noted with no changes because a technician had been by and noone was home. I assured them that wasnt the case and that they said it was a whole overhaul they needed to do , Ive called back multiple times and theyve done basic troubleshooting but I'm still having internet problems. I have an arris modem and so far hardwired I have no issues with my 100 us /10ds lately but my wifi is horrible , ive done multiple ping tests and wont get beyond 39 ds at the most and it random shuts itself on and off or the modem reboots. I have a brand new tplink archer c7 and i dont think thats the issue. I have at this point hit a wall repeatedly with them and what to know what i can do myself to try to alleviate the problem , i work from home as well as am an online student and i cant even take my tests without worries of the net being flimsy. Im having this issue on both desktop and laptop windows 7 and 10. are there any solutions because at this point im paying too much for service im not getting which they wont reimburse me for , and tempted to go with dish which probably isnt best solution for my area.

lowest caps of any wired isp now

Come on people start flooding the fcc, letting a foreign company take over an american company without any conditions at all. Haveing the lowest caps of all isp's in area's they don't have competition, and forcing families to move up to a higher teir at a higher price to have unlimited where they won't have to worry about overage charges. And where it will cost some like me $74.00 dollars for 100/7.5 in 2 years, forcing me to move up from 50/5 250 gig cap. When we shouldn't have to. In old suddenlink area's where their is nothing like NY and the other cablevision area's where families ca get the $14.99 dollars plan for kids on the school lunch program or the higher teirs with way bigger caps, faster speeds and lower prices for them. Think everybody in WV and area's that have the lower caps and speeds 50/5 250 gig and 75/7.5 350 gig should start complaining to the fcc hard,Hell even comcrap moved their caps up to 1 terabyte. Since altice's lowest broadband speed in most area's now is 50/5 their lowest cap if we have to live with them should at least be a few terabytes. The only reason for the caps anyways is so they don't loose competition to online media services that cordcutters and cord nevers use. That and like the old owner, never ever was congestion but is one good moneymaker for suddenlink. Any area that doesn't have at least 2 isp's with broadband internet 25/3 not dsl unless they can do that speed,The fcc should make it they can not have caps on any teir. So everybody in states like WV get them complaints in to the fcc, families should not be forced to move up in teirs just so they don't have to worry about caps and overage. Lots of people in my state don't even have cable for tv just use OTA antenna's and have to sign up for lower teirs broadband if can get cable or slower even dsl. Because of the caps and overage bullcrap, shouldn't be long before altice is at the bottom of the isp's list that comcast and time warner are at now.

Is going to look bad to the fcc,ftc and even the goverment, also other countries letting a foreign company get away with treating US citizens worse the the local monoply's. And I'm definately not sticking up for the monoply's, There should be no caps on anything. When the airwaves came about they were if I thinking right and still are, really belong to the people and really are just on loan to the companies, even if they think they own them now. Also it was our own goverment that started the whole internet thing, they wouldn't have it,if was for all the taxpayer monies the goverment used to invent it.

[Caps] dsl force phone and broadband isp's forced caps.

$

Two things I think the fcc should be fighting big time, even if have to go to court to stop them. 1. dsl isp's force you to signup for phone service to have the dsl high speed internet, But in all places dsl internet should be standalone, what they are doing is stifling competition from other voip providers, vonage, ooma and others out there. And force you to pay a way higher price then what you need to, heck theres even ways to put on a free local google number where don't have to pay anything for the phone service to have phone if you had standalone dsl. And then dsl with the caps,as said caps are so they can make boatloads of extra money and also stifle competition. 2. Caps on broadband internet, there should not be caps on any tiers of service, you are paying for the broadband. Some people don't need or want the higher speeds to watch vidoe's or use their connection for other things. But your paying for you internet connection, already higher then most country's. But the caps are to stifle competition to other media. Sling TV,Vue,Netflix,Hulu, etc. If your going to watch other companies media,we'll make you pay for it one way or another. First if you going to watch the competition we'll put in caps that way we can charge you boatloads of money for going over them, (most 10 dollars per 50 gigs even if you only go over 100 megs.) Second if you don't like caps,we will force you to move up to a tier thats going to cost you a lot more,so we can get our money we are loseing to competition that way. So like said, the fcc should if have to do it in court, put a stop to any caps, forced bundleing like internet service and phone, and forceing you to move to something higher priced, beyond in some cases peoples means just so your family of 5 can use it for school and you can for job hunting. P.S. Most broadband and hsi providers We can do it cause you don't have no where else to go, so we can do what we want to your internet connection.

Maybe the FCC,FTC and AG's should use the rico act on the isp's

$

Isn't what some isp's are doing a voilation of the rico act. First the forcing to pay more, 20 dollars for suddenlink. 30 dollars and more for other isp's. If you want unlimited but also for some that have the lower packages makeing is so the only way you can get the unlimited is if you move up to a higher tier. In suddenlink/altice case if I want unlimited not only do I have to pay 20 dollars to move up to a higher tier. I also have to pay another 20 dollars for the unlimited. Which in my case would more then double what I pay now. But like in some peoples cases, wouldn't that be a form of extortion. A voilation of the Rico act. So maybe people in situations like mine should beside complaining to the FCC, be complaining to their AG's in the states where it is happening.

Extending Service?

Hi all, I recently bought my first home just outside of county maintenance lines in College Station, TX. We learned that Suddenlink doesnt currently provide service there. I'm unhappy with the alternative options for internet and am ondering how to go about requesting an extension of Suddenlink service. I know whether or not this happens depends on consumer density and cost, but any help would be appreciated. LJ

Can Arris SBG6782-AC modem/router be used with 200mbps service?

Arris SBG6782-AC http://www.surfboard.com/products/sbg6782-ac/ My friend bought that cable modem/router combo for only $50 at a yard sale. Unfortunately, TWC tech support told him that they they could not activate it for services above 100mbps, which meant he would have to drop to a lower speed tier plan. The modem/router is DOCSIS 3.0 with 8x4 channels and rated up to 343Mbps. He'll let me have it for free and I just have to pay for the shipping. (or drive 18 hours roundtrip to his hour to pick it up :) ) However, I'm wondering if I should even bother with having it shipped to me. Can I use it on my Suddenlink 200Mbps service? Thanks!

[Caps] suddenlink is screwing people over in uncompetitive area's

$

First of all suddenlink said in all their area's their lowest speed was going to be 50/5, Which is considered broadband. FCC's mandated 25/3 as broadband. Now unlike most dsl they can't do 25/3 so they are HSI. Now you do have companies like at&t that dsl and broadband. Now where suddenlink is screwing over the people mainly in uncompetitive area's is If you want the unlimited so you don't go over the caps, which is lower then any provider that offers broadband, not counting dsl. Like at&t on their uverse side, they do have dsl speeds on it but their cap is 600 gig, comcast now theirs is 1 terabyte. Now they do for unlimited charge you extra, the difference theirs is unlike suddenlink,is it's for all tiers not just the highest. Now I know you are going to say well suddenlink offers unlimited, but the way they are really screwing over the people in their uncompetitive aera's is first their lowest speed is 50/5. So what they are doing to make the extra money and stop media competition is they made it that if you have a lower speed then 100/7.5 in order to get unlimited you are forced to move up to a higher speed, there is also some of their area's that don't have the higher speeds so they can't even move up. So someone in an area that can't move up to a higher speed or even a person that don't want to move up to a higher speed cause of cost, Is stuck paying extra for going passed the lowest caps there is of the isp's that are broadband. Its bad enough that we pay pretty close to the highest prices for internet anywhere the world but now they want to charge for using you internet the way it was meant and charging you extra for it. But whats even worse then that is the caps forced on some people for overages charges and also forcing people in uncompetitive area's that can move up to a higher tier move up if don't want the low caps. Like said suddenlink need to at least make the unlimited option availible to all their tiers not just the highest. Or if the fcc does let charged extra for something that should be free in you internet plan, should go after suddenlink/altice with regulations. Actually more then the fcc can go after them, actually so can the ftc,and ag's cause this crosses the border of the Rico Act.

[Connectivity] Nodes\Backup Power

I have a Business Account What is the typical backup power run times on the nodes when the power goes out? My node come out of Pilot Point/Little Elm Texas. My power went out about 10:10PM and the RF Signal went out about 10~15 Minutes later. My ups kept the network switches and router up until about 11:50PM and I turned everything off. 5 Minutes later the power came back on and the RF Signal was back. Anyway we can get extended run times on these nodes? I never lost the cell phone tower during all of this. Regards, Thomas -- You never know when you need your old hardware till you throw it out. An EE once told me, If the hammer you are using is not working, You need to use a larger hammer.

A truck roll is necessary to swap out a 1Gbps modem..

$

I went up to the Suddenlink local office today to swap out a Hitron gateway modem (the ones with the integrated wifi) for a standalone modem. To my surprise, apparently a truck roll has to be scheduled to swap out a modem. Now if I was upgrading from one of the lower tiers to the 1gbps plan, I could understand this. But as I am already a subscriber, I see this as wasteful. That tech could be better utilized elsewhere instead of having time spent swapping one modem for another. That could be a new install or fixing a service outage. The other thing is, if I had a bad modem or a modem that was going bad, normally, I could have just exchanged it at the local office (which I have done before) but now, I have to wait (general time for a truck roll is a week) and that is a long time to go without internet. And I do think that Patrick Drahi and Dexter Goei would agree that it is a waste to have techs doing something that a customer could do (unless the customer was uncomfortable doing it - or as I said before, it is a new 1Gbps customer coming from another tier or a new install altogether). And for the record, if there is a service charge for this truck roll and modem swap, I will not agree to said charge, once again, because this something that I could have done on my own without the need for a tech.

good read over at stop the cap and part reason of whats going on

Here is a good read about altice/drahi the foreign company that took over suddenlink and cablevision. just a short piece of the page about suddenlink area's,not all of it. So now maybe my complaining to the fcc, ftc, and ag won't look so bad about what they are doing in area's where there is no competition. The French newspaper Les Echos notes Suddenlink customers are already helping cover Altice’s terrible financial performance in Europe, thanks to that cable company’s 42.5% profit margin. Suddenlink customers will be doing even more to help bail out Drahi’s difficult situation in France, thanks to future rate increases and the continued implementation of broadband usage plans that will push customers towards upgrades. But there is more to come. Full story here. http://stopthecap.com/2016/05/17/financial-mess-altice-continues-abroad-u-s-cable-customers-will-cover-losses/ People in area's where they are forcing you to move up tha'ts costing you extra and people that can't move up that are stuck on the low caps 50/5 250 and 75/7.5 350 caps, lowest caps of the broadband provider isp's not even half. Also the forcing to move up and pay double, first to move up me its $20 dollars and then another $20 dollars over the next 24 months, more then doubles my bill. Get them complaints in to the FCC,FTC and AG's

Well Yahoo mail works, and I am currently using my T-Mobile cell phone for work email, but this is a real show stopper if I can't get around it. I am using Outlook 2013 as the mail client. Has anyone run into this problem before? Is it a blocked port issue? Or funny spam filtering rules Suddenlink has in place? Do any of you know of a way to work around the problem (if you have seen it or something like it)? Thanks, --Charles

Suddenlink kicks me off network for 15 mins when torrenting

Hello, I've noticed a new phenomenon over the past couple months. When I begin downloading a torrent that is larger than say 1GB, my internet will cut off for approximately 15 minutes. -Thought it was my router, but going directly through modem does same thing -The cable modem doesn't lose sync and shows nothing in the log, its as if it should be working properly I'm 99.9% sure its some sort of new protocol on SL's end because of the way it happens and how easily repeatable it is. Million dollar question: What's causing it? I have used 2 different torrent programs and limited the P2P connections dramatically and it STILL does it. Anyone hazard a guess or know whats causing it?

soon altice will be at the bottom of the list of worst isp's

$

Soon suddenlink/cablevision/Altice will be down at the bottom of the list for worst broadband isp's like Comcast and TWC. Mainly cause they will have the worst caps of broadband isps. They will have 250 and 350 gig caps on their 2 bottom tiers where as uverse it now at 600 gig and comcast is at 1 terabyte but also cause in some area's in WV you can't move up to the lowest speed you can get unlimited 100/7.5 so the're stuck on caps and overages. But also making it that some in WV and other area's with no competition. Haveing to pay more to move up to a higher tier, then pay for the unlimited. Suddenlink/altice should of done it like the other isp's did it. First raise their caps on all tiers but also made unlimited availible on all their tiers. Like comcast and at&t did. So all in area's that suddenlink/altice is screwing you over with this stuff get them complaints into the fcc, ftc, and ag's. Plus wouldn't hurt all you state representitives. We need to stick together and stop the caps on broadband service, its bad enough the USA pays close to the highest price for broadband in the world and it was the American taxpayers that really paid for the invention of the internet. Will also look bad on our representitives in the fcc, ftc,ag's and states if a foriegn owned now company gets away with treating americans worse then our own monoply/duopolies.

should I be alarmed that my bill no longer says "Unlimited Internet" ??? I have attached a picture showing my April and May bills. In the April bill, next to 200Mbps, it says "Unlimited Internet Allowance" but on the May bill that I got yesterday, it no longer says that. Is this some kind of bait and switch tactic by Suddenlink? I only switched to the 200Mbps service last month in order to get unlimited. :(

Since DSLReports won't write about the suddenlink ripoff.

$

Since DSLReports won't write a story about the suddenlink/altice ripoff in uncompetitive area's I tried my best to do it. Is long and shouldn't be in the forum I know but maybe it will get picked up here and other sites and they will write their own. ======================================================= The Suddenlink/Altice Ripoff Ok first off I will say this about this story about suddenlink/Altice, I am not no writer and your will find lots of mistakes in it.("Always got d's and f's in writing class") First suddenlink, What they did in all their area's is they moved up their speed so the lowest speed they offered would be 50/5. One of the reasons being the fcc made it to be broadband it had to be a speed of at least 25 down 3 up or it could not be called broadband. But also when they made the 50/5 they kept their low 250 gig cap on it, so now you hit that cap in no time. In lots of area's that suddenlink raised that speed,("expecially in WV where I live") lots of people are what the call cord cutters, cause of the wages in our state. And where we live. To maximize profit from the people in WV and probably other area's where there is no competition to get except dsl, ("here it is frontier") they want to make sure they can get as much money out of the people as possible. Unlike the competitive area's and other area's where they are forced to, there is not no program for cheaper broadband for families with children on the school lunch program. So to make sure they can make the most money off of us in states like WV where there is a lot more cord cutting and lower wages. And to stop some of the complaints to the fcc because of the low caps 50/5 250 gig cap and 75/7.5 350 gig cap. Suddenlink started offering unlimited for $20 dollars more like the other broadband isp's started offering cause of the complaints about caps. But so suddenlink/altice could make the more money off the people in the uncompetitive area's like WV. They emplemented their unlimited with a few condition. First in some area's in WV they only offer 50/5 250 gig and 75/7.5 350 gig. so they made the lowest you can get the unlimited 100/7.5. In press releases they say they offer the unlimited to the 2 highest speeds in the area's which is a lie, if you look at your bill online it even says not available in all area's. So now these people are stuck with the caps, and in WV there are lots of families with 3 or 4 kids and internet is essential for school, jobs and all. Internet is a utility like the fcc mandated it is. Its not like cable where you can live without. You need the internet. Now to maximize profit from some in WV that they made it where they can get the unlimited internet, What suddenlink/altice did is like for the ones that can't even get the unlimited, and to stop the cord cutting. Suddenlink/altice made it that you have to move up to a higher tier, even if you have 50/5 or 75/7.5 and are satisfied with the speed to maximize profit from them, they have to move up to 100/7.5 which cost them more. $10 dollars if on 75/7.5 or $20 dollars if on 50/5. Then on top of that the $20 dollars over 24 months. Now some of you might say that that's only right. You should have to pay more for more speed and for the unlimited, but let me ask you this? Is it fair to all when some are stuck paying high caps or is it fair to make it so people have to pay more to move up first. When first the USA is in the bottom half of the list of countries with the highest price for internet in the world. Is it fair to all american's when the isp's, cable or telco wouldn't even have the ability to offer internet if it wasn't invented by the defence department that used the taxpayers money, rich or poor. We all already paid for the internet to be invented, why should we still have to pay more then most other countries for some big corporations. Especially when they are a monopoly/duopoly in the country. Now another note about suddenlink/altice like said those are the ways suddenlink/altice are making sure they maximize their profit from people in uncompetitive area's like WV. A few things they aren't doing like the other broadband isp's not talking dsl even if some also offer dsl. The other broadband providers move up their tiers, like uverse even if you can get it down at 12 megabytes and that's not broadband, they upped their lost cap to 600 gigs. Even Comcast at the bottom of the most hated list of broadband providers move their lowest tier up to 1 terabyte. But also with all the other broadband providers that started charging for the unlimited they made their unlimited for all of the tiers. Two things suddenlink/altice didn't do. Now for the record I for one is for Net Neutrality, I think the internet is a utility and should be regulated like a utility. If a isp is going to get away with having caps the meters should be tested just like with gas, electric and water by the government and it should set the lowest tiers, at least 1 terabyte or 1.5 terabyte, to catch up with today's world. If going to let unlimited for more money, should be mandated it has to be on all tiers even your lowest. P.S. Please look over all my mistakes in the story,I'm not a writer, never claimed to be and know I could never be. But thanks to all who still read my story about the big suddenlink/altice ripoff. P.P.S. People get them complaints into the fcc, ftc, and ag's we need to get together and show the duopolies/monopolies that the people count and that the voice will be heard. Or they will just keep adding on and on and we pay more and more. Goonierag

why does my IP change whenever I plug in a different router?

I've been testing 6 different routers to see which one works best in my home. (from Netgear, TP-Link, Linksys, and a no-name router) My Suddenlink modem was never disconnected from the coax or power cable. I'm just curious as to why my public IP address changes each time I plug in a different router? It usually just changes the last three digits in the IP. Thanks
